About the arrangementsOld time music has been a fixture in my house and at family gatherings for as long as I can remember. I have gone from resenting the music (as many kids resent the music of their parents) to genuinely liking it. This winter, I decided to try my hand at the process of arranging for solo classical guitar as well as delve a little bit deeper into my relatively newfound appreciation for this music.
The process began with writing down the tunes themselves--transcribed mostly from performances captured by field recorders--and figuring out keys, scordatura, etc. for each tune. Before returning to school in February, I decided to record the pieces as best I could given the time constraints. The inimitable Collin Pastore (check out his work at collinpastore.wordpress.com/)--a songwriting and music production student at Berklee and one of my best friends--agreed to man the soundboard, so to speak, and this is what we ended up with. |
